Saturday's Orange Cauliflower Omelette

With Villagio Marzano Tomatoes, Purple Spring Onion, Tuna, and Rosemary

I made this omelette on Saturday.

Ingredients:

Filling

Garlic Avocado Oil, For Frying
Orange Cauliflower
Purple Spring Onion, Chopped
Villagio Marzano Tomatoes (Grown in Canada!), Chopped
Chunk Light Tuna (Rinsed and Drained)
Rosemary Leaves
Red Palm Oil, For Drizzle

Eggs

Cage-Free Eggs
A Few Shreds of Cheese (I Use Cheddar, Mozzarella, Parmesan, or Monterey Jack), Mixed Into Eggs
Sea Salt
Freshly Cracked Pepper

I used a wok.  I stir-fried cauliflower and onion in hot oil first.  Add the tuna and tomatoes once the cauliflower and onion are fragrant and starting to brown.  Let everything cook for a few minutes.  Add rosemary leaves and red palm oil.  Stir to coat.

Beat eggs and mix with everything else.  Pour mixture to fill pan.  Cook on butter, oil, or sprayed surface over medium-low heat.  Lid can be used to evenly cook egg (flipping is also possible).  I just allowed the top to be more moist than the bottom.

Super Simple Mushroom Soup

Over the weekend because I had a cold (still do) and already happened to be on a week-long pseudo liquid cleanse.  I decided to make this mushroom soup.

I started with some Truffle Infused Olive Oil and Garlic Infused Avocado Oil.

Then I sauteed the following, chopped:

Oyster Mushrooms
Maitake Mushrooms
Shiitake Mushrooms
Crimini Mushrooms

I stirred in some soy sauce.  I added water and brought to a boil.  Then I added a vegan beef cube and a few teaspoons of consomme powder.  I simmered for about 15-25 before first serving, and continued to heat off and on as needed.

I added fresh basil (snipped), fresh Italian parsley (snipped), and some dried oregano leaves.  Also freshly cracked pepper (mixed assortment).

The Smoothie You Can Root For.

It's been awhile since I've posted something here.  I'm on a week-long weight-loss oriented pseudo liquid cleanse, which includes anything that I can puree.  All fruits are frozen, roots are not.

The Frooty Ruity Smoothie!

The Smoothie Ingredients:

Rutabaga
Turnip
Radishes
Beet
Starwberries
Blueberries
Raspberries
Blackberries
Mango
Peach
Pineapple (Tiny Bit)
Apple Juice
Poppy Seeds

Look out for the switch-up.

Actually, I've decided to make another one The Parsnip Power-cleanse.

The Smoothie's Ingredients:

Parsnip
Parisian Carrot
One Sprig Mint
Strawberries
Peach Slices
Mango Chunks
Fig
Grapefruit Juice
Apple Juice
Oat Bran
Ground Hemp Seed
Flax Meal

Neither of these tastes particularly on the money, but they are way more satisfying than the purees at the Santa Barbara Public Market (a place for high rollin' space cadet whack jobs) where the woman priced 6-8 ounces of liquid at 60-90 dollars.  A shot was like 10 to 20 dollars.  I don't care how expert she is or how premium the ingredients, it's not worth it.  The Grindhouse Gourmand's Private Market is where it's at.

Butternut Squash-Carrot Smoothie

I had frozen butternut squash in the freezer from late last year.  I wanted it out.  Making another smoothie, it occurred to me: put it in a smoothie.  So I did that.  I aimed for ingredients with complementary tones.  This is what I came up with.

Frozen Butternut Squash
Frozen Parisian Carrots (Trader Joe's) ... Could Be Any Carrots
One-Half Frozen Banana
Frozen Peaches
Frozen Pineapple Chunks
Half or Less Jazz Apple ... Once Again, Don't Sweat the Jazz
A Few Frozen Beet Slices
A Teaspoon or So of Hemp Seeds (Ground or Not (I Used Ground)
Poppy Seeds (A Few Shakes)
Paprika (A Dash)
Orange Juice

Everything is in the blender jar except the juice, hemp, paprika, and poppy seeds.

The juice is added.

Hemp seeds are added.

Finished product after about a minute of blending.  Consistency is excellent.  Stop and check and add liquid if necessary. Blending can be a very finicky process.  I added the poppy seeds and paprika afterward with a spoon but I would blend them to begin with if I had originally thought to use them.  I also would have added frozen mangoes if I had them.  Smoothies are almost an anything goes affair once you acquire the feel for it.

Hollywood Farmers Market March 22, 2015 - First of Spring

I knew it was coming: spring onions in Spring.  I am eager for the larger sweet spring onions.
As you can see, I bought more than mushrooms this time, plenty of greens.

Purple Spring Onions
Purple Spring Onions.
The below vendor had purple as well but I already bought the above.
Spring Onions
Organic Spring Onions.
Romanesco
Romanesco.
First romanesco from this market.  Bought from Santa Monica and Pasadena before.

Didn't get as much mushrooms this time.
Blue Foot Mushrooms

Hedgehog Mushrooms

I was happy to see larger than usual hedgehog mushrooms.

Large Artichoke
Big Heart Artichoke.
I also got an expensive artichoke from a Lompoc farm.  Had mine before I thought to take a picture of it but it was like the above pictured.

Broccolini-Cauliflower Hybrid.
This kind of stuff is exactly why I go to these!
